Bedford - St. Peter Chanel Catholic School ends at the end of the 2012-13 school year, according to the school's website.
The school "was a decreasing trend, which has seen enrollment drop of 42 percent since 2000 - from 403 to 234 - and demographic trends show signs of stabilization," said Margaret Lyon, catechetical formation and Secretary Education / Superintendent of Schools, In a letter dated 14 December www.stpeterchanel.com published.
Moreover, "the gap between tuition and the cost of raising each student has to expand further," Lyons. "Even with the generosity of so many people in the community of St. Peter Chanel and also provides significant financial support from the diocese [Cleveland] was not sufficient to ensure financial sustainability."
According to the school's website, there are no concrete plans for the future of the Chanel building and real estate industry, but the school is working with the diocesan Catholic organizations and local communities to identify viable alternatives.
The diocese plans to visit students from other schools and transfers for the next year to facilitate and help to identify employment opportunities for faculty and staff Chanel, said the website.
"Between now and June still teach our teachers, our students still learn our athletes in competition and complete our seniors yet," Lyons.
