Tuesday was a bittersweet day for the community of St. Peter Chanel High School as the final recording was for the class of 2013.
Fifty-nine seniors, their families and the former proved to St. Barnabas Church in Northfield for the historic moment.
St. Peter Chanel in Bedford closes its doors after 56 years of educating students northeastern Ohio.
Older Bria white, while excited to graduate school, she loves, regrets, future students will not graduate as Firebirds.
"I just hope that many other people have the same experiences that I have and can not move like me have such a wonderful school," White said.
Older case Frejofsky was to realize that the end of an era at Chanel on it came.
"It's a bit surreal to think that it comes to an end, but at the same time I feel a little honored to be a part of the last class of the school is legendary," says Herbst.
St. Peter Chanel High School opened in 1957 as a four-year comprehensive high school for Catholic young men. The school received permission to go co-ed for the 1986-1987 school year.
Class of 2013 Major Andrew Bucur and salutatorian Gary Baker once brought memories of their days walking the aisles Chanel, who will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
"The only thing I remember is only the faculty and coaches, I had Chanel" Bucur said. "She has taught me really much more than books. Many life lessons that I have learned here."
"Surely you remember the family atmosphere," said Baker. "When you enter, you will automatically see that we are one big family here at Chanel and we love each other and care for each other."
